David Webster incredibly won 4 Gold medals and may have won 2 more had he competed in 200M and 400M. David long jumped 22' 9" and won convincingly. Immediately after the LJ event, David clocked 2:03.7 in 800M for his 2nd Gold. As if those two events were not enough for the day, he went over to win the High Jump event at 6' 6". Next day, he soared to a 46' 0" in triple jump for another notch to his name. David will surely be a big help in the USA relay teams in Rome. |
Heather Lightfoot of Washington St./Maryland broke a 31 years old women discus record held by Dorothy Adamietz of Texas with her 134' 2" toss to win the discus event. Heather also improved her own World Record in women hammer by about 15 feet. She capped the event with a pending WR toss of 147' 0" or 44.80 meters. She also placed 3rd in shot put. 2001 Roma will be her second trip to the Deaf World Games. She won a Bronze medal in discus in Denmark, 1997. |

Tiffany Hargrove, a freshman from Louisiana School for the Deaf, shattered the world record (pending approval from CISS) in women triple jump by almost one foot! She finished 1st place in 100M (13.1) and 200M (27.1). In 400M, she narrowly dashed for 2nd place with 62.7, losing by 1/10 of a second. She earned another gold medal finish in Long Jump with a jump of 15' 11". Her future looks promising! A Gold medalist in making. |
Franklin Jones, a 5' 7" junior from South Carolina School for the Deaf. clocked 56.7 in 400M hurdles finishing 3rd place. Franklin has not competed on national or international level until the Trials. His previous best time was 58.04. His Trials time indicated his potential in becoming a great 400M hurdler in years to come. |
